At the start of this week, everyone’s work was still very
much everywhere. Although we were all producing something, we were still
struggling to settle on a house style.
So I decided to propose a ‘documentation file’ style approach
featuring government/police style presentation. I thought this approach would be
both unique and captivating as it can play on the audience’s mind as they draw
links and connections themselves.
The idea was to create slightly ambiguous imagery which
reflected the whole ‘conspiracy’ idea. So I thought this idea could be applied
to the website. Over the weekend I created some mock up designs using imagery
and QR codes and I made a title image featuring glitch text and a shattered QR
code. I used a yellow, black and white colour palette to keep it simple and not
overcrowded with colour. I immediately thought yellow and black would be a good
choice because the combination has the connotations of warning symbols and the
iconic ‘caution’ stripes.
Immediately things started coming together more. I designed
a mock-up interface for the webpage’s navigation with the same style as the
front page design and me and Anthony began creating evidence documents and
other files which we could include on the website.
As we wanted to keep with
the ambiguity theme, we didn’t want to give the audience any exact information.
We just displayed the bare minimum (links to files, and subject numbers).
Lawrence and April decided that instead of producing
posters, they would instead create an authentic case file featuring the
different documentation files we produced, Agusia’s illustrations as well as
more relevant material. Honestly this seems like a better idea as it feels much
more authentic, although posters is something we could potentially do as well.
Me and Anthony decided that we’d start looking into how we
could link each picture to the navigation section. We were thinking about how
we could create a website, but Lawrence suggested that producing an interactive
PDF would save time and function similarly to an offline website.
We researched into creating interactive PDF’s and Anthony
began linking things together.
Meanwhile, Lawrence & April were hard at work on their
case file. April was putting together ideas and Lawrence’s was searching for
materials.
With the purchase of a couple of folders, a few packs of
card and a scalpel knife, the creation of the case file was under way.
Lawrence
had also created a couple of logos to stick on the case file in illustrator which
was simple and effective.
